FULL MOON JAMMIN GATHERINGS!

Been Moon Watching?

The moon is almost full - again. Next Monday, July 30, from 4-10 PM, come and meet other music folks to play music jams or just listen and hang out on the pickin' porch out back. At 7:30 PM there will be an open rehearsal for String Zing! and friends. Read through will go about an hour, music and stands provided.

For those who haven't attended yet, it is about 10 degrees COOLER in the valley. Last month there were yummy BBQ meals cookin' while new friends were made. Folks on vacation from Florida attended, a banjo player with a HUGE harmonica played his stuff, and we had a large group who met inside while a pianist pounded away for us!

Lots of live music going on. Don't miss out on the fun!

Families are welcome to bring the kids, also BYO meats for the barbecue eats.

Full Moon Schedule

Monday July 30 4-10 PM

Tuesday August 28 4-10 PM

Report on Martha Colby's "Live Music"

Retreat and Concert CANCELLED by County Threats - Jail Time for Promoter Was Alternative

The July Twin Pines Teacher Retreat and the Martha Colby Concert was scheduled to be held at the vacation-destination in Eden, Utah, Snowberry Inn Bed & Breakfast. After the Weber County Planning Commission called with their plan to arrest anyone who did not "cease and desist" from teaching and holding a small concert there, and said they would be "hand-cuffed and hauled off to jail on a Misdemeanor B and fined up to $1800 on the evening of July 13."

Cellist and singer/songwriter Martha Colby was featured in an article July 6 in the Ogden Standard Examiner entertainment (Go) section, and sparks began to fly.

Apparently a permit was needed, but old rules enforced by the office made it impossible to expedite the necessary permit in a 7 day window. Harley & Buck's (a mile down the rural road) became the alternative venue, and the (apparently) bad word CONCERT was not mentioned. The weather co-operated and it was a fine evening of original artful "live music" that Martha Colby played on her electric blue cello. A big thanks goes to Craig Bonham, owner of Harley & Buck's inside of the Eden General Store, for allowing Martha's performance to go on in the form of dinnerside music. The New York City guest artist shared the evening with Shades of Grey, and also jammed with the group.

A big thanks goes out to Sherrie Dohrer at Snowberry Inn for trying to help the cause! Someday when the Planning commission learns how to plan, and quits trying to "run people off" we will all get together. We're just glad no one had to go to jail - this time!

Valley residents were infuriated with the situation that developed surrounding Martha's concert. The area was four-walled with promo posters about the NYC artist, and there was an outpouring of support shown. Tour funds were raised in the form of donations during her first time debut and visit to Utah. Martha Colby was quite surprised about the developments, and expressed that she did not wish to cause such a stir of negative emotions.

Out of state Retreat participants were able to meet with Martha on a private basis at an undisclosed location. The Promoter was appalled that the commission would choose to make a spectacle of a positive cultural event such as this. Instead of apologies for the way in which they went about their communications, they continued with a harassing letter, even after the scheduled event was clearly cancelled and posted in the media as such.

Martha Colby's music performance with fiddler Theresa Ellis and percussionist Joe Clem was very well received at the restaurant. Her original music was inspiring, and she sold out of CD's available that night.
